HIV, AIDS and Disability in South Africa
In 2007 the disability sector of the South African National AIDS Council initiated a project to document the experiences of disabled people in responding to HIV and AIDS. The project culminated in the production of a report titled 'HIV, AIDS and Disability in South Africa'.
The report looks at the challenge of HIV among disabled people in South Africa and the response of the disability sector, government and other stakeholders to the challenge. The report was informed by document reviews, field research (carried out in 2007) mainly focus group discussions, case studies and key informant interviews. The documentation process was overseen by a Reference Group comprising representatives from the disability sector, government and UNAIDS.
